Nowadays, social media are massively present in our environment, the millennials being the biggest users of social networks. However, this huge world of connection and sharing that is the internet brings its strengths and weaknesses for the user.
Indeed, social media are used to share your life with your followers, however this massive sharing leads to online shaming.
Indeed, one negative aspect of social media is that all users can have access to information on other users. Some users do not take into account that their personal datas and information are available on the internet for everyone to see. And this can lead to issues, even to shaming issues. People take the liberty to invest others’ personal life, by commenting or harassing anonymous users.
Therefore, the question of the availability of everyone’s personal data is an issue as it implies some sharing that might turn out to be harmful for some victims of cyber-shaming.
To fight this personal invasion, some professional try to warn social media users in order to prevent any problems. As in some cases, this use of others personal data can lead to depression for some users as their pictures are used by people with bad intentions, who mock, bully or even harass these victims. It can lead to serious damages for the victim, such as depression, or suicide, especially among the young generations and teenagers, for whom the image is extremely important.
